Saje’s Lamb and Rice Dinner
This is a yummy recipe and very easy to make…it comes from The Healthy Dog
Cookbook: 50 Nutritious and Delicious Recipes Your Dog Will Love. I have renamed it
after my sweetest pal Saje…I hope he will try it!
Note: The addition of peaches gives a sweet flavor that doggies will LOVE, ad non-
gluten products are used here to help doggies that might have allergy problems.
3 pounds ground lamb or lamb chunks (I used ground lamb)
½ cup fresh peas, shelled (I used frozen baby English peas)
1 cup brown rice
1 cup (about 8 ounces) canned peach slices in natural juice
1 . Saute the meat in a lightly sprayed pan over medium heat for about 15 minutes
until no longer pink and the meat juices run clear. Let cool.
2 . Meanwhile, cook the rice according to the package directions.
3 . Cook the eggs in a sauté pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring gently
until the eggs are firm.
4 . Mix the lamb with the scrambled eggs and let cool.
5 . Mix together the peas, rice and peaches…then stir in the meat and egg mixture.
As a little extra punch, I made a little gravy mixture from the pan drippings by adding
some flour to the pan of cooked lamb and juices, then adding a bit of water to thicken
up…then a little bit of milk for richness. If you are sensitive to milk…then just add
water. You can also add a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese to this, or some PLAIN
(NOT DIET!!!!!!!) yogurt, to the finished dish….these are both good for a doggie’s
digestive system…again, if you are not sensitive to dairy. I always served my dishes
over a tiny bit of high quality kibble…but you can eat this all by itself it you like!
This makes about 7, 1-cup servings. I place small amounts in quart size freezer bags and
freeze until I need them. Only place in each bag what you will eat up in about 2 days to
keep each bag as fresh as possible.
